It's been a while since we've shared one of our regular plant identification sessions, and what a perfect day for the AMPG team to gather for a working lunch in my garden!

The late summer borders are really delivering right now, and my treasured @gazeburvill Levity chair made the... perfect spot for today's botanical briefing. (A surprise gift from them at RHS Chelsea several years ago - engraved with my initials - much treasured and a reminder that I've always got a seat at their table!)

My garden continues to serve as our living reference library where the team can study plants throughout the seasons, understanding how they work within our design philosophy of Plants, People, Place, Purpose.

Each stem in today's Bonne Maman jar collection brings its own qualities - from pollinator appeal to seasonal performance - insights that inform every boldly vibrant, biodiverse planting scheme we create.

Today's botanical roll call (alphabetically):

* Anemone × hybrida 'Honorine Jobert'
* Angelica sylvestris 'Ebony'
* Borago officinalis
* Echinacea purpurea 'Magnus'
* Foeniculum vulgare 'Purpureum'
* Succisa pratensis
* Teucrium hircanicum 'Paradise Delight'
* Verbena bonariensis
* Verbena hastata f. rosea
* Verbena × baileyana 'Purple Haze'

Swipe through to see the full collection and close-ups of these late summer stars at their peak.

📌 Save this post if you're looking for late summer border inspiration for next year - all these plants work in combination to create both visual impact and ecological value, embodying our Bold, Vibrant, Biodiverse philosophy.

Meanwhile, what's flowering brilliantly in your garden right now? We'd love to hear what's working well for you this season! You never know, you might find it in our next planting plan!

Have a very happy weekend.

Anyone fancy a swim? 💙 We're feeling rather envious today!
Nothing beats receiving photos from clients showing how our gardens have grown and settled.
This part of a broader AMPG garden design is finding its rhythm beautifully - the interplay between those deep burgundy foliage ...tones and the crisp paving creates exactly the contrast we hoped for.
And it's a relief to see how well everything's performing in this heat.
On days like today, one can't help but appreciate the foresight of a client including a pool in the brief!

Anyone else feeling weirdly flat about their garden right now?

Everything's blooming beautifully but somehow you just can't muster the enthusiasm?

Turns out there's actual science behind the August Slump.

This week I'm exploring the peculiar ...psychology of August gardening exhaustion - and why sometimes the most productive thing we can do is absolutely nothing at all..

In her latest piece for @scribehound_gardening, award-winning garden designer Ann-Marie Powell takes us beyond the tidy borders of traditional horticulture into the wild, radical beauty of Waltham Place, a garden that challenges everything we think we know about planting design.

Tucked ...behind a modest gate in Berkshire, this extraordinary space invites weeds to flourish, celebrates bindweed, and redefines the very idea of control in the garden. It’s not just a place, it’s a philosophy.

In this article, Ann-Marie shares how Waltham Place (and its late visionary designer Henk Gerritsen) completely changed how she sees gardens and how it might just do the same for you. Readers will discover how letting go of perfection can lead to deeper beauty, resilience, and ecological richness.

Sometimes the most intimate spaces deliver the greatest impact.

This contemporary country courtyard, nestled within a former six-acre orchard, proves that bold design can transform a tricky space into something rather extraordinary.

The sculpture creates dramatic focal points ...whilst our carefully considered planting demonstrates how Bold, Vibrant, Biodiverse isn't just our motto—it's how we think about every garden.

Those flame-coloured Alstroemeria provide pure theatre against the architectural backdrop, proving contemporary design and ecological responsibility can be stunning bedfellows.

At AMPG we adore bold colourful planting, not just to catch the eye, but to lift spirits, energise minds and create emotional connections whilst providing vital nectar sources for pollinators.

The textural contrasts—from architectural steel to soft, billowing grasses—create visual depth that makes this courtyard feel significantly larger than its actual footprint.

It was wonderful to revisit this space and witness how it keeps performing throughout the year. There's something rather satisfying about watching our gardens settle in and find their rhythm.

If you'd like to see more from this project, let us know in the comments...

This is where our contemporary country courtyard begins transitioning into the countryside surrounding it.

Verbena bonariensis weaves through tawny grasses creates the relaxed naturalistic beauty we love.

Sometimes in garden design the best approach is to let nature take the ...lead.

It’s rather lovely when a garden knows exactly where it wants to sit in the world, isn’t it?
